Please choose one of our other workouts if you are triggered by weight loss themes.
This is a lower impact, beginner-accessible workout that will torch fat and sculpt muscle.
Not everybody wants to specifically lose fat as a fitness goal, and that's TOTALLY okay! But we talk to a lot of people who have weight loss as a goal and if you've clicked on this title, we're guessing you're one of them!
We've custom designed this workout specifically to burn fat by focusing on two major workout components.
The first component is that this workout is low impact and moderate intensity, with no jumping movements, and that’s because we want to keep your heart rate in the target fat burning zone – one that you may be surprised to learn feels quite comfortable and doable, even if you’re a beginner.
Secondly, we’ll focus on building muscle tone and strength with targeted resistance training moves. The more muscle you have, the easier it is to lose fat, even at rest. Muscle also shapes the body, helping you create a toned, sculpted physique.
With these two super factors combined, this workout program, done three times a week for at least four weeks, combined with a balanced diet and an active lifestyle, will get you fantastic results.
Throughout the class, I’ll ask you to check your intensity level with a target heart rate chart. To check your heart rate, place two fingers at the right side of your chin like this and count the number of pulses in a 10 second period, then refer back to the chart on the screen to make sure you’re in the right range for your age.
If the pulses you counted fall below the recommended range for your age, you can ramp up the intensity a bit. If your pulses are above the recommended range, slow down and march moderately in place until you’re back down in the fat burning range.
Of course, it’s always important to take it at your own pace, and stop for regular breaks. If you feel any pain, tiredness or shortness of breath, stop immediately and contact your trusted health practitioner for advice.
If you’re new to exercise, make sure you keep an eye on the bottom right of the screen, where I’ll be displaying lower impact modifications for some of our more advanced moves. You’ll still get all the benefits of the workout while being kind to your body and helping it get fitter in a much safer and more effective way.
And if you are new to exercise or recovering from injury or illness make sure you get the all clear from your doctor first that the activities in this workout are safe for your particular circumstances.
For this workout, you'll need:
* A full bottle of water
* A yoga mat and towel
* Proper running shoes with good shock absorption
* A high impact sports bra for those of us with boobs
P.S. We just want to remind you that regardless of whether this workout burns fat or helps you lose weight, or whether or not you do lose weight or stay exactly as you are, you're still the same wonderful person who deserves to feel healthy, loved and happy regardless of your dress size. Don't let a number on the scale dictate your self worth and don't feel like you have to do this or ANY workout to earn your food or earn the right to live a full and joyous life!
We hope by doing our aerobics workouts you discover that movement feels good regardless of whether it burns calories, and hope your focus shifts from your appearance to feeling wonderful as you go through the program.
It's fine to have aesthetic goals, but be kind to yourself and remember: we never designed these workouts as punishment for your body, but as a way to celebrate your body through movement. Fitness is not supposed to take away from your joy, it's meant to add to it!
Now let's go and work out like it's 1989!
